Newly published research has found that vitamin D directly influences over 200 genes, which may indicate that vitamin D deficiency would increase susceptibility to a wide range of diseases. Research evidence links vitamin D deficiency to susceptibility to autoimmune conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, as well as certain cancers and even dementia.
The Chinese formula Huang Qin Tang is used to treat upset stomachs and nausea. Huang Qin Tang alongside irinotecan administered to mice with colon cancer was found to restore gut cells, which normally die off in response to irinotecan alone. Huang Qin Tang also caused the mice to experienced less toxicity, less weight loss and more anti-tumour activity than controls that were given irinotecan alone.
A research study found that participants who orally ingested turmeric tablets had elevated levels of plasma Geranylgeranois acid (GGA), a cancer preventative retinoid naturally occurring in turmeric, for four hours. These results suggest that GGA from the turmeric tablet was absorbed intact through the intestinal mucosa indicating an efficient bioavailability of this acid.
In patients with advanced and metastic breast cancer, researchers found turmeric to be an effective adjuvant therapy with the chemotherapy medication, docetaxel.
